TENS, NMES and Microcurrent

TENS, Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation, is a Class II medical device used in physical therapy, rehab and sports medicine intended to provide pain relief by stimulating the sensory nerves. NMES, Neuromuscular Electrical Stimulation, also a Class II medical device used in physical therapy, is intended to produce muscle contraction.

Most TENS units and NMES units come with instructions booklets, however we strongly recommend that TENS and NMES devices be used under the guidance of your healthcare practitioner. Proper placement of electrodes combined with adequate power adjustments are critical in the outcome and performance of these devices. Electrodes and wires will deteriotate with usage and time and need to be replaced on a regular basis, especially for TENS units that are used intensively in rehab clinics.

OrthoCanada carries an extensive line of premium TENS, NMES and Microcurrent units for rehab clinics as well as units for home healthcare use. Price variation between units is often a sign of the quality of current delivered by these machines, combined with technology (programs) and robustness of the material and industrial design of the machines. Our brands of TENS units include ITO, Comfy Stim, Cefar, Biomedical.
